Outreach Program

Outreach Program Purpose and Goals

Purpose

The Veteran Services Program brings support directly to rural veterans—right where they live. Our Veteran Service Officers travel to hometowns across Montana to meet with veterans face-to-face, answer questions, and help them access the benefits and resources they’ve earned. This outreach builds connection, understanding, and trust, ensuring that no veteran feels forgotten or left behind.

Goals

  • Ensure that veterans and their families in every Montana community, including rural and tribal areas, can easily connect with a local Veteran Service Officer and get free help understanding and applying for their benefits.
  • Bring services closer to home by scheduling regular visits from VSOs to rural towns, so veterans do not have to travel long distances to receive assistance.
  • Help veterans, survivors, and dependents make the most of the state and federal benefits they have earned—such as compensation, education, health care, housing, and cemetery benefits.
  • Work side by side with community partners, tribal governments, local officials, and other veteran organizations to build a strong, coordinated support network for veterans across Montana.
  • Listen to veterans and their families, identify gaps in services, and use their feedback to improve how Montana delivers veteran services now and in the future.
