Volunteer Opportunities

Give back to those who served by volunteering with the Montana Veterans Affairs Division (MVAD). Whether you have a few hours a week, or a day each month, your time and effort make a real difference in honoring Montana's veterans and supporting the dedicated staff who serve them.

Opportunities at Montana State Veterans Cemeteries

Help preserve the dignity and beauty of our three state veterans cemeteries by assisting with light groundskeeping tasks. Volunteers may help with:

  • Weed and litter control
  • Raking and tree maintenance
  • Flower placement or seasonal clean-up
  • And other tasks per the cemeteries specific needs

Equipment use is not permitted - just a willingness to work outdoors and help keep these sacred spaces respectful and well cared for.

Opportunities at Veteran Service Offices

Volunteers are also welcome at our nine Veteran Service Offices across Montana. These offices provide critical support and guidance to veterans and their families. Volunteers can help by:

  • Greeting visitors and checking in veterans for their appointments
  • Answering phones and taking messages
  • Assisting with basic office organization or janitorial tasks

Every act of service - large or small - helps ensure Montana's veterans receive the care, respect, and support they deserve.

How to Get Started

In order to volunteer, print and fill out the volunteer's fields of the Volunteer Service Agreement and contact the Office Manager at the location you wish to volunteer at. They will then be able to coordinate a time to help you complete basic task training and set up a schedule for volunteering.

When you arrive, bring a copy of the Volunteer Service Agreement for the Office Manager to complete, in order to participate in the volunteer activities.
